PA 167th House District
The 167th PA House District currently occupies a region along the Route 30 commercial corridor from Devon, in Easttown Township, through Willistown Township, East Whiteland Township, West Whiteland Township, with Malvern Borough and Charlestown Township adjacent to that corridor. That is a heavily traveled corridor, with the Septa train line running alongside it. Many residents commute on Route 30 and on the Septa rail line. This district is overwhelmingly what would be considered suburban, with Charlestown and West Pikeland having semi-rural areas. The proposed 167th District would remove the two easternmost townships, Easttown and Willistown. West Vincent, a rural township, quite dissimilar from the rest of the district, would be added at the north of the district. The addition of East Caln Township at the western end of the district, while somewhat similar to West Whiteland Township, is itself being removed from its own community of interest as part of Downingtown Borough, which circles it on three sides. East Caln is also part of the Downingtown Area School District, connecting even more closely with the greater Downingtown community. East Goshen, another new addition to the 167th, while also arguably part of a community of interest with other parts of the 167th, is itself newly split in two. This certainly goes against the stated goal of not splitting communities of interest. To summarize, the proposed 167th: - Maintains multiple school districts and newly splits a previously intact school district. - Splits a previously intact township - Adds a predominantly rural township to a suburban district The above factors are not in keeping with the goals of redistricting.
