My opinion on redistricting
I am Council President for New Britain Borough. It is a volunteer position, and I do not speak for the Borough For New Britain Boro, having competitive districts. As it happens, our Borough Council is heavily Democratic. Our representatives in Harrisburg are likely to be influenced by our local politics, When we app;y for grants, they might put their thumb on the scale to take care of their own. If the districts were competitive, there would be less temptation to do this. I think it is important for districts to be compact and competitive. Otherwise blocks of people become disenfranchised. Give and take is important, all of us should be able to have our views seriously considered. When the district is overwhelmingly one party or the other, some citizens will be left out of the public debate, and extreme views. We are not well served when polices are one sided.
