Objection to prison gerrymandering resolution
Reallocating prison data to allow incarcerated people to be counted in the districts where they live was an important step taken by the LRC. Sen. Kim Ward's attempt to limit the rights of the incarcerated based on their sentence length serves to deny those individuals the access to constituent services and representation. It also denies representation to the communities in which they have lived. Furthermore...the lack of timely notice (less than 24 hours) to the public of this vote is disconcerting at best. Please do not support this unfair resolution.
