District 38

The Legislative Reapportionment Commission proposed preliminary maps that added more of the City into District 38 while removing Marshall, Franklin Park, and Bradford Woods. This proposed State Senate map needlessly divides the city into 3 State Senate districts instead of 2 (City Population is 302K while a state senate district is 250-260K). This goes against the State Constitution for minimal number of municipal divisions. Additionally, the Northern Suburbs have little in common with the City of Pittsburgh. Our school districts like Avonworth, Northgate, and Shaler are all in the same sports leagues and there is a much bigger community of interest in combining these with other Northern suburbs. The 42nd District should be more compact and include more of the city and can stay entirely below the Ohio and Allegheny rivers except for parts of the City of Pittsburgh.
