Comments On Legislative District 187

Stipulations in the PA Constitution that were incorporated in the guidelines put forth by the PA Redistricting Advisory Council state maps should minimization the division of political subdivisions – such as counties or, where possible, municipalities and school districts and should make arbitrary splits unless a division is necessary to preserve a cohesive–and clearly identified–community of interest. The current map for the 187th Legislative District fails on all these requirements as it: 1. Covers 2 different school districts and a portion of a 3rd school district 2. Splits Upper Macungie Township for no apparent reason 3. Includes townships such as Lynn Township that are rural/farming with townships such as Lower Macungie that are commercial/suburban. This takes the concept of a "cohesive–and clearly identified–community of interest" and turns that on its head. Please adjust the map to make it consistent with our state constitution and the guidelines put forth by the Redistricting Advisory Council.
