Communities of Juniata and Mifflin Counties

I understand why redistricting needs to be done and the process improved. However, splitting apart communities that are otherwise joined together in multiple ways does not help what is broken, and only creates more problems for its citizens. Were studies or surveys done to learn about the people in any of the affected communities? Mifflin and Juniata Counties, although separated by an invisible county line created in 1831, have combined interests both personally and through various businesses and outreach programs. When county lines were created, they were drawn with reason and consideration for natural boundaries due to the distances people had to travel for state-related matters. The Juniata Valley was separated from Perry County for this reason in 1789. Now, more than 200 years later, this redistricting plan intends to turn back the clock and force citizens to travel much longer distances than they have been accustomed to for decades. So much for progress! Again, I understand why this process is necessary, but the major problems are in the more populated areas of the state. Separating the rural communities of the Juniata Valley does the opposite of addressing problematic issues with legislative boundary lines. It's like trying to fix the engine of your car by rearranging things in your trunk. I am speaking ONLY on the legislative districts and not the senatorial districts. Our State Representatives in rural areas are approachable and hands-on with members of the community. That is why it is important that whoever represents those areas should be nearer in proximity because they understand local matters on a personal level and therefore are able to do a better job in Harrisburg. PLEASE reconsider the preliminary redistricting plan for the legislative districts. Don't split the communities in the current 82nd district by eliminating it. Our people would be greatly aggrieved and less represented.
